In the spirit of the giving season, Capitol Federal drew the Kansas City winner of its “Grand Giving” contest. This contest awards seven lucky individuals, one from each of CapFed’s communities, with $1,000 and the opportunity to ‘pay-it-forward’ with an additional $1,000 awarded to the local non-profit of their choice.
The Kansas City winner was Elizabeth Boresow. The charity Elizabeth chose to give $1,000 was Camp Encourage. “I chose Camp Encourage because they provide a quality experience for youth on the autism spectrum, building campers' self-esteem and abilities. This is very important to me.”
Alissa Workman, Development Coordinator for Camp Encourage, expressed her gratitude to Elizabeth and CapFed®. "We are very honored to have our important work recognized in the community and to have been chosen as the recipient of the Grand Giving award in Kansas City,” said Alissa. “Camp Encourage provides overnight camps for youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD or autism) from Missouri and Kansas specifically designed to meet their individual needs, while providing them the opportunity to have an enjoyable, ‘traditional’ overnight camp experience in a structured and supportive environment.”
When asked what Camp Encourage plans to do with the $1,000, Alissa said, “With the support of generous community partners such as Capitol Federal, we will add overnight weekend camp sessions in 2017, in addition to our summer camp sessions, to further meet the needs of the growing population of youth with autism in our community.”
