Capitol Federal® Announces Lawrence "Grand Giving" Winner
December 5, 2016
In the spirit of the giving season, Capitol Federal® drew the Lawrence winner of its “Grand Giving” contest. This contest awards seven lucky individuals, one from each of CapFed’s communities, with $1,000 and the opportunity to ‘pay-it-forward’ with an additional $1,000 awarded to the local non-profit of their choice.
The Lawrence winner was Christy Edwards. The charity Christy chose to give $1,000 was the Lawrence Humane Society. “I chose Lawrence Humane Society because it is my favorite charity,” said Christy. “My spouse and I have three cats that came from the LHS, Weezer, Phoebe and Allie. Since we have lived in Lawrence, we have gone to the humane society to find our cats. While we give to other charities, we donate first to the Lawrence Humane Society.”
Meghan Scheibe, Director of Development and Marketing for the Lawrence Humane Society, expressed her gratitude to Christy and CapFed®. "We are so overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, and would like to thank Capitol Federal for supporting nonprofit organizations and fostering a spirit of giving this holiday season through initiatives like the Grand Giving contest. We would also like to thank Christy for selecting our shelter pets as the recipients of this incredible gift. This gift is sure to make the holidays a little brighter for pets in need."
When asked what the shelter plans to do with the $1,000, Meghan said, “The generous donation from the Capitol Federal Grand Giving contest will be allocated to our special medical fund, which directly helps homeless and abused animals that enter our facility with serious injuries and medical conditions requiring extensive veterinary care.”
