The Topeka Boulevard branch opened as Capitol Federal's first branch location in 1950. It was the first branch savings and loan office in the state of Kansas. It also had the first drive-up teller window in Kansas! A boiler explosion in 1954 caused great damage to the facility, resulting in a change of appearance with remodeling and expansion. The remodeled branch originally featured green trim but was later updated to match Capitol Federal's "Blue".
