00:00:13:14 - 00:00:14:08 Hi, my name 00:00:14:08 - 00:00:17:23 is Natalie McGill and I am with Capitol Agency Insurance. 00:00:18:02 - 00:00:21:22 I am here today with my colleague Brian Rauber and we are here to answer 00:00:21:22 - 00:00:25:17 some frequently asked questions about the agency about insurance. 00:00:25:17 - 00:00:28:17 And we're really excited to get into that. 00:00:29:04 - 00:00:31:22 Looks like we have another question that's come in. 00:00:31:22 - 00:00:34:07 Natalie, what's your insurance pet peeve? 00:00:34:07 - 00:00:36:19 Oh, I know this one. 00:00:36:19 - 00:00:38:20 The term full coverage. 00:00:38:20 - 00:00:39:17 What does that mean? 00:00:39:17 - 00:00:42:03 How is it that it's fully covered? From what? 00:00:42:03 - 00:00:47:11 It's a term that, I somebody invented an insurance 00:00:47:11 - 00:00:50:17 marketing room somewhere a long time ago, and it's it's 00:00:51:20 - 00:00:54:02 it doesn't exist. So there's no such thing. 00:00:54:02 - 00:00:54:23 There's no such thing. 00:00:54:23 - 00:00:56:12 I think, I mean, people 00:00:56:12 - 00:01:00:09 use it to describe comprehensive and collision coverage on an auto policy. 00:01:00:09 - 00:01:02:09 So if you hit somebody and they, you know, 00:01:02:09 - 00:01:05:09 and you have full coverage, it's going to take care of everything. 00:01:05:14 - 00:01:07:00 Misnomer. 00:01:07:00 - 00:01:10:00 There are a lot of pieces to an auto policy. 00:01:10:08 - 00:01:14:21 And without getting as nerdy as I want to at this moment, 00:01:15:00 - 00:01:18:05 just I to understand that that there is no full coverage. 00:01:18:16 - 00:01:21:10 What what's your pet peeve? 00:01:21:10 - 00:01:23:18 Well, I've got to be careful with this because I don't want to, 00:01:24:21 - 00:01:27:20 offend anyone, but it's the term apples to apples. 00:01:27:20 - 00:01:32:01 I understand, when when folks are shopping 00:01:32:01 - 00:01:35:22 to compare their rates, they want to compare, what they have. 00:01:36:01 - 00:01:40:07 But apples to apples is really not what we're here for. 00:01:40:19 - 00:01:43:12 We want to make sure that you get the right value, 00:01:43:12 - 00:01:46:12 the right coverage, for your needs. 00:01:46:17 - 00:01:49:14 What I like to tell clients when I talk to them is, 00:01:49:14 - 00:01:53:04 if you shop apples to apples, and that's what you've always done, 00:01:53:13 - 00:01:57:05 you have the same liability coverage you had when you were 16 years old. 00:01:57:20 - 00:02:00:17 And I think it's probably safe to say your life is changed. 00:02:00:17 - 00:02:02:12 Your assets have changed. 00:02:02:12 - 00:02:06:11 So, apples to apples is the one is the one that gets me. 00:02:06:16 - 00:02:08:07 I think the conversation needs to be deeper. 00:02:08:07 - 00:02:09:16 Yep. No, I completely agree. 00:02:09:16 - 00:02:13:06 And, you know, a Capitol agency, one of our philosophies, philosophies 00:02:13:14 - 00:02:17:07 is, you know, if somebody comes to us with, you know, their current policy 00:02:17:07 - 00:02:18:10 from another agent, 00:02:18:10 - 00:02:22:04 you know, that's like copying somebody's homework that may or may not be right. 00:02:22:05 - 00:02:23:19 Yeah. So dog should have eaten it. 00:02:23:19 - 00:02:24:19 Exactly. The dog. 00:02:24:19 - 00:02:26:22 Dog may have needed to eat that policy. 00:02:28:00 - 00:02:29:11 But, we're going to 00:02:29:11 - 00:02:32:11 underwrite your risk, as you know, as we know how to do. 00:02:33:08 - 00:02:37:03 Our next question is, you know, what is your elevator pitch? 00:02:37:07 - 00:02:40:07 Why should I buy my insurance from you? 00:02:41:07 - 00:02:45:11 Well, as we mentioned earlier, Capitol agency has been around nearly 75 years. 00:02:45:11 - 00:02:49:04 We've got a team of licensed account managers, account 00:02:49:04 - 00:02:52:03 executives, all with a wealth of experience. 00:02:52:09 - 00:02:55:19 We're independent agents so we can help our clients 00:02:55:19 - 00:02:58:19 shop their policies through a host of carriers. 00:03:00:19 - 00:03:02:03 And I think we're good. 00:03:02:03 - 00:03:02:20 Yeah. 00:03:02:20 - 00:03:05:11 But talk to me about you. 00:03:05:11 - 00:03:07:05 Why should I buy my insurance from you? 00:03:07:05 - 00:03:09:21 What makes Bryan Roper the guy I want to buy insurance from? 00:03:09:21 - 00:03:12:13 I've been in the industry for 25 years. 00:03:12:13 - 00:03:16:00 And I've worked, in all lines of business 00:03:16:01 - 00:03:20:20 out on home, commercial life, long term care, Medicare related products, health. 00:03:23:11 - 00:03:24:12 I like what I do. 00:03:24:12 - 00:03:27:11 I mean, this is my career, and we're here to help. 00:03:27:11 - 00:03:28:05 Yeah. 00:03:28:05 - 00:03:31:15 I think, you, like me, are also an insurance nerd. 00:03:31:21 - 00:03:34:21 Which, you know, 00:03:35:04 - 00:03:36:12 it doesn't make us one. Hates to brag. 00:03:36:12 - 00:03:38:21 Yeah, it doesn't make us, like, the coolest kids at the party. 00:03:38:21 - 00:03:43:21 But we I actually enjoy insurance. 00:03:43:21 - 00:03:45:05 I enjoy the business of it. 00:03:45:05 - 00:03:48:18 I enjoy digging into policy, you know, coverage and questions and, 00:03:49:14 - 00:03:52:03 Well, at the end of the day, insurance is important. 00:03:52:03 - 00:03:55:03 I'm glad that we're, partnered 00:03:55:03 - 00:03:59:09 and part of Cap Fit because, you know, it's all about assets. 00:03:59:12 - 00:04:02:12 And, at the end of the day, 00:04:02:14 - 00:04:05:14 you know, your insurance is the foundation of your financial plan. 00:04:05:19 - 00:04:08:14 And, you know, you don't want one mistake, 00:04:08:14 - 00:04:11:09 you know, a bizarre accident to compromise. 00:04:11:09 - 00:04:12:06 You know, your nest egg. 00:04:12:06 - 00:04:15:05 So now I am getting nerdy. Yep. 00:04:15:05 - 00:04:16:12 It's okay. It's okay. 00:04:18:03 - 00:04:21:03 Oh, wow. It. 00:04:21:18 - 00:04:23:09 Oh, we have another video question. 00:04:23:09 - 00:04:26:09 This one is from our friend Alex. 00:04:29:17 - 00:04:30:21 I've heard people mention 00:04:30:21 - 00:04:34:15 personal umbrella policies, but what exactly does that cover? 00:04:36:00 - 00:04:38:00 Excellent question. I'm glad you asked it. 00:04:38:00 - 00:04:38:19 We kind of touched 00:04:38:19 - 00:04:42:14 upon it a little bit earlier, I think, with our young driver question. 00:04:42:21 - 00:04:46:08 Do you want to go ahead and just explain, sort of what an umbrella is 00:04:46:08 - 00:04:47:03 and what it does? 00:04:47:03 - 00:04:48:04 Absolutely. 00:04:48:04 - 00:04:52:19 An umbrella is a separate, liability policy that that goes above. 00:04:52:19 - 00:04:54:22 And I can't say umbrella without doing this. Yeah. 00:04:54:22 - 00:05:00:05 Above and beyond the policy limits of both your auto, and your home. 00:05:00:05 - 00:05:03:09 And if you have other, toys, like boats or, 00:05:03:09 - 00:05:06:11 or, you know, ATVs and the umbrella policy, 00:05:08:01 - 00:05:09:20 adds liability coverage 00:05:09:20 - 00:05:13:19 beyond the maximum payout that you would have on those policies. 00:05:13:19 - 00:05:16:22 So, you know, the most common event that that would happen 00:05:16:22 - 00:05:21:04 where an umbrella would kick in, would be an unfortunate auto accident where, 00:05:22:02 - 00:05:25:10 you know, most clients have auto policy limits 00:05:25:10 - 00:05:30:15 that that stop at 100,000 or 250,000 for the injuries to one person. 00:05:31:08 - 00:05:33:03 The umbrella, 00:05:33:03 - 00:05:35:21 if you maxed out your policy, 00:05:35:21 - 00:05:38:08 it would add a million on top of that. 00:05:38:08 - 00:05:43:05 So you'd go from 250,000 for the injuries of that person to 1.25 million. 00:05:43:05 - 00:05:43:14 Yeah. 00:05:43:14 - 00:05:48:09 And, you know, in this day and age, it's not hard to exceed those underlying limits 00:05:48:19 - 00:05:52:02 if you're in a multicar accident that, you know, involves, 00:05:52:12 - 00:05:56:14 you know, a Tesla, a BMW, and a Mercedes and a Kia, 00:05:56:21 - 00:06:00:03 and you've already blown through your underlying limits pretty quickly. 00:06:00:21 - 00:06:03:06 And if there's injuries, you know, on top of that, 00:06:03:06 - 00:06:07:19 the $100,000 does not go very far in a hospital setting any longer. 00:06:08:04 - 00:06:13:06 And I think the thing to keep in mind is the umbrella protects your assets. 00:06:13:06 - 00:06:14:13 So, you know, 00:06:14:13 - 00:06:18:12 let's say that you have a policy where it's maxed out at 100,000 in coverage. 00:06:19:06 - 00:06:23:06 If you have an accident and it exceeds that 100,000 00:06:23:20 - 00:06:27:19 that injured party or their family can come after your assets. 00:06:28:00 - 00:06:31:00 You know the policy, the carrier, they're going to pay the 100,000 00:06:31:18 - 00:06:34:05 the injury party is going to to pursue 00:06:34:05 - 00:06:37:15 the rest of of what they need for their injuries. 00:06:37:15 - 00:06:40:08 And that means they can come after your personal assets. 00:06:40:08 - 00:06:46:05 So, you know, think of your savings, your your home equity, if you have more 00:06:46:05 - 00:06:50:08 to protect than what your liability limits are, you're under insured. Yep. 00:06:50:12 - 00:06:54:02 One of the objections that I hear, from time to time is, well, 00:06:54:02 - 00:06:55:07 I don't have anything. 00:06:55:07 - 00:06:57:04 You know, I don't have any assets for them to come after. 00:06:57:04 - 00:06:58:05 Let them come after me. 00:06:58:05 - 00:07:03:01 Like, do you have the capacity to work still, you know, are you not, 00:07:03:01 - 00:07:06:14 you know that a tiger manage, you know, or beyond, 00:07:06:23 - 00:07:09:15 you know, like a court can consider your, 00:07:09:15 - 00:07:13:07 future wages in any kind of judgment and that kind of situation. 00:07:13:07 - 00:07:17:05 So you may not have anything now, but everything that you plan to have in 00:07:17:05 - 00:07:20:08 the future is in jeopardy if you don't have the right kind of coverage in place. 00:07:20:10 - 00:07:20:22 Absolutely. 00:07:20:22 - 00:07:23:11 Garnishment is a very real thing. 00:07:23:11 - 00:07:26:11 You know, I'm I'm no, I'm not an attorney, but, you know, 00:07:27:03 - 00:07:31:00 they can garnish up to 25% of your after tax income. So, 00:07:32:04 - 00:07:35:04 you know, can you live on 75% of what you did before? 00:07:35:06 - 00:07:37:07 I can't 00:07:37:07 - 00:07:40:07 my wife can't live. 00:07:41:11 - 00:07:44:11 I love this question. So, 00:07:44:11 - 00:07:47:23 I, you know, I have, friends and family, obviously, outside of the industry. 00:07:48:05 - 00:07:49:01 Shocking. 00:07:49:01 - 00:07:52:03 And, you know, they'll say your insurance is boring. 00:07:52:08 - 00:07:53:16 It's boring. How do you do this? 00:07:53:16 - 00:07:54:21 Why are you doing this? 00:07:54:21 - 00:07:57:01 What's your why? Why are you. 00:07:57:01 - 00:07:59:07 Why have you stuck with it as long as you have? 00:07:59:07 - 00:08:00:20 You know, every. 00:08:00:20 - 00:08:02:00 Every day is different. 00:08:02:00 - 00:08:03:13 Every client's different. 00:08:03:13 - 00:08:06:10 You know, as we've talked about, we do multiple lines. 00:08:06:10 - 00:08:07:20 We're not just auto and home. 00:08:07:20 - 00:08:11:12 You know, if you have a small business, I can help you insure that I can I can, 00:08:12:05 - 00:08:13:14 help you navigate. 00:08:13:14 - 00:08:15:18 As that business grows, you're going to have different needs. 00:08:15:18 - 00:08:18:12 You're going to need worker's comp at some point. 00:08:18:12 - 00:08:21:12 You know, if if you need 00:08:21:15 - 00:08:24:14 your business needs group health, we can help with that. 00:08:25:01 - 00:08:28:03 You know, when you reach retirement, I can help you with that transition 00:08:28:03 - 00:08:32:05 from, you know, regular health insurance or under 65 health insurance 00:08:32:05 - 00:08:33:02 to Medicare, like, 00:08:34:05 - 00:08:35:16 there's 00:08:35:16 - 00:08:39:16 we can help clients throughout every stage of their life. 00:08:39:23 - 00:08:43:11 And, you know, again, you know, as I mentioned earlier, 00:08:43:22 - 00:08:47:06 insurance is is the baseline, the foundation of your financial plan. 00:08:47:11 - 00:08:51:08 And I know I, I guess it's kind of an honor to help people with that. 00:08:51:14 - 00:08:54:14 Yeah, I agree. 00:08:55:03 - 00:08:58:03 For me, I think, 00:08:58:12 - 00:09:00:23 you know, insurance has a place for everyone. 00:09:00:23 - 00:09:04:13 And it's not just, you know, for those that sit behind, you know, 00:09:04:13 - 00:09:08:11 actuarial tables, setting rate, it's not just the product people, 00:09:08:17 - 00:09:11:18 building the insurance policies on the state level. 00:09:13:09 - 00:09:16:09 It's been a the industry has been good to me in a lot of ways. 00:09:16:10 - 00:09:20:04 And my favorite part of it is, 00:09:20:04 - 00:09:24:01 being able to, you know, use my, my, my people skills. 00:09:24:01 - 00:09:26:00 You know, I love talking to customers. 00:09:26:00 - 00:09:28:00 I love interacting with our employees. 00:09:28:00 - 00:09:30:15 Insurance is never going away. 00:09:30:15 - 00:09:36:00 And literally every person and needs some form of insurance from birth to death. 00:09:36:11 - 00:09:40:01 So, you know, being able to be the person that helps them 00:09:40:01 - 00:09:42:03 navigate that journey is it's kind of fun. 00:09:42:03 - 00:09:45:05 We at Capitol Agency Insurance would like to be your insurance partners. 00:09:45:14 - 00:09:47:13 You can reach us, pretty much anywhere. 00:09:47:13 - 00:09:49:00 You can find Capitol Federal. 00:09:49:00 - 00:09:50:15 You can stop into your local branch. 00:09:50:15 - 00:09:55:07 You can give our 800 number a call or find us on the website, or on social. 00:09:55:07 - 00:09:56:23 Or you can click on the links below.
