On July 1, 1980, Capitol Federal® celebrated a significant milestone with the opening of its 16th office, marking its entry into the Wichita market. The grand opening took place amidst one of the worst heatwaves since the 1930s, but on the day of the ribbon-cutting, the weather turned pleasantly mild, creating a perfect backdrop for the festivities. As if choreographed, jets from McConnell Air Force Base soared overhead while a Marine color guard raised the American flag, and a talented trio of ninth graders played the National Anthem, filling the air with patriotic spirit and excitement for the new chapter in Capitol Federal’s journey.

Today East Wichita is an integral part of the community at the corner of East Douglas and S Rock Road.
