The Topeka Boulevard branch opened its doors in 1950 as Capitol Federal's very first branch location, making it the first savings and loan office in the state of Kansas. Notably, it also boasted Kansas's first drive-up teller window, offering a new level of convenience to customers. However, in 1954, a boiler explosion caused significant damage to the facility, prompting a remodel and expansion that changed its appearance. The original design featured green trim, but over time, the branch was updated to align with Capitol Federal's signature blue, solidifying its place in the community's history.
