Overdrafts can happen, but we have options to help you avoid them.
Standard Overdraft for Checks and ACH Transactions
We automatically review checks and ACH transactions that might cause an overdraft on your account. If we authorize a transaction resulting in an overdraft, an Overdraft Fee will apply. You can choose to opt out of our Standard Overdraft Services for these transactions. If you opt out, any transaction that would overdraw your account will be declined or returned unpaid, incurring an Insufficient Funds Fee (NSF Fee). Additionally, the other party involved may impose their own fees.
Change Your Opt-Out Status
To adjust your opt-out status for Standard Overdraft Services, please complete and return this Standard Overdraft Services form to Capitol Federal.
Standard Overdraft Services for One-Time Non-Recurring True Blue® VISA® Debit Card Transactions
To cover one-time, non-recurring debit card transactions that may overdraw your account, you must opt in to our Standard Overdraft Services. When you opt in, an Overdraft Fee will be charged if your balance is insufficient to cover the transaction amount at the time it posts. Without opting in, such transactions will be declined, and no fee will be charged.
Change Your Opt-In Status
To modify your opt-in status for overdrafts on True Blue® Visa® debit card transactions, please complete and submit this Debit Card Overdraft Election form to Capitol Federal.
Overdraft Protection Plan
Our Overdraft Protection Plan offers an additional layer of security for your checking or money market accounts. This plan automatically transfers funds from linked checking, money market, or savings accounts, or from an Execuline home equity line of credit to cover overdrafts. Approval is required for this plan, and it provides automatic coverage for any negative balances.
Apply for Overdraft Protection
To apply for the Overdraft Protection Plan, download and complete the Overdraft Protection Application and visit your local Capitol Federal® branch. Note that in-person registration is required and certain restrictions apply.
